Curdle is a personal cheese tasting journal for iOS. Track wheels, aging timelines, tasting logs, and pairings without creating an account or uploading your cave to our servers.
1. Who we are
“Curdle,” “we,” and “us” refer to the developer of the Curdle iOS application. For privacy questions, contact us at privacy@curdle.app.
2. Information we collect
Data you enter in the app
Curdle stores the content you create locally on your iPhone or iPad, including:
- Cheese wheels — name, origin, milk type, rind, aging plan, open date, notes, and photos
- Tasting logs — scores, aroma tags, flavor notes, wine paired, photos, and optional voice notes
- Pairings — wine, food, pairing score, notes, and photos
- Preferences — wheel slot count, aging reminder toggle, and display choices
- Coins balance — your in-app currency balance and fulfilled purchase identifiers
This data is saved in the app’s local storage on your device. We do not operate a cloud sync service and do not receive this content unless you explicitly share it (for example, by saving an export to Photos).
Device permissions
Curdle may request the following permissions. Each is optional and only used for the feature you trigger:
- Camera — photograph cheeses, tastings, and pairings
- Photo Library — attach existing photos and save tasting cards
- Microphone — record voice notes on tasting logs
- Notifications — aging reminders on a cheese’s peak day (10:00 AM local time)
You can revoke any permission at any time in iOS Settings → Curdle.
Purchases
Coins are sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Apple processes payment and may collect billing information according to Apple’s Privacy Policy. We receive only purchase confirmation and product identifiers needed to credit your coin balance — not your full payment card details.
3. How we use information
We use your data solely to provide app functionality:
- Display and organize your cheeses, tasting logs, and pairings
- Calculate aging phases and schedule local peak-day reminders you enable
- Generate on-device exports such as tasting cards
- Deliver in-app purchases and maintain your coin balance
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
4. Data sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Limited sharing may occur only in these cases:
- Apple — for App Store distribution, in-app purchases, and system services you enable
- Legal requirements — if required by law or to protect rights and safety
- Your actions — when you export, share, or save content outside the app
5. Data retention & deletion
Your journal data remains on your device until you delete it. You can remove individual cheeses, logs, or pairings within the app, or use Me → Clear All Data to erase all wheels, tastings, and pairings and reset coins to the default starting balance.
Uninstalling Curdle removes all locally stored app data from your device.
6. Children’s privacy
Curdle is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact privacy@curdle.app and we will assist with deletion.
7. Security
Your data is protected by iOS app isolation and device-level security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID). We recommend keeping your device updated and using a screen lock. Because data is stored locally, loss of device access without a backup may result in permanent data loss — consider regular iPhone backups via iCloud or your computer.
8. International users
Curdle is designed for local, on-device storage. If you use the app outside your home country, your data still remains on your device subject to your local laws and iOS policies.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect changes. Continued use of Curdle after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
